Getting Started with Blue

Most of my sewing machine time this week has been spent working on the quilting of my Stay at Home Round Robin, and I'm slowly making progress on that!

But when I'm just quilting along with straight lines, I have to admit that my mind wanders and I start thinking about what else I might like to be sewing.  The new Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for April is light and bright blue, so of course, I'm ready to sew with blue!

One project I thought about was my Table Scraps project for the month, a placemat in light/bright blue.   I happen to have a charm pack of Kaffe Fassett that I've been trying to find a purpose for.  Lots of pretty blue in this one, among other colors.

I picked out several squares that I really liked, paired them with a blue solid fabric, and made some 4.5 inch HSTs out of them.

Right now, I'm just playing with the layout for the placemat.  Maybe this?

A couple chandelier bead blocks were quick to sew up, too.

When I saw that Angela had posted the Full Stop April block, which is an asterisk, I had to make one of those, too!  Even though I've seen many quilts using this block, I've never made one myself.   I think it turned out pretty good!

Well, now that I've distracted myself with a few scraps of blue, I'd better get back to my quilting!

  5. You got a fun start with the blue. The chandelier blocks are one of my favorites, and I just know I'll have to do another quilt with those blocks someday soon.

  8. Ooh! Thanks for the heads up! I got so busy cleaning out the camper that I forgot to look at the asterisks for Full Stop! That’s one other project for April! Your HST with the Kaffe Fassett fabrics is going to be so pretty! I have a hard time with the vivid colors. And I did have one project bleed a blue green . Just FYI!

  16. Those Kaffe squares are so yummy. They will make a darling runner. Yes, our minds wander during straight line quilting and yes I am often planning the next thing even before this one is done. The SAHRR is coming along nicely and the Asterisk block is just perfect.

  17. Ooh, I especially love Kaffe's blues! Your chandeliers are looking good; I've started my blue ones this month. It's a 2 year project for me so I'm trying to avoid repeats.

  19. That Kaffe charm pack is the perfect jumping off point for your placemat. Gorgeous, Spring colors. I know what you mean about the wandering mind while straight-line quilting. I find it not only mindless but boring. However, sometimes it must be done for ditch quilting around blocks/borders and is always a good option for some of our quilts. I much prefer free motion. Lovely start on your RSC blocks too. Have a good week.

  20. Is your round robin with your guild? We did one once and I love it. A Stay at home one would have been fun, even running to trade off with others.
