I like Thursday #202

Happy Thursday!  I'm joining in with LeeAnna and friends at Not Afraid of Color for I Like Thursday where we share all the positive things we've found in our week.

One day last week, I needed to pick up a book at the library, but got there before it opened.  So I took a walk around the area and enjoyed the sights.  Our library is in a downtown area that includes the rec center and municipal building.  In the center of all the buildings is this beautiful lagoon and park area.

A sign points the way to go either to the library or to the rec center.  After all, you wouldn't want to get lost!

Our city has lots of public art, and this area is no exception.  I love this sculpture!

Speaking of the library, I love the services it offers to our city.  One of my favorites is Priscilla's Bookshelf, which has bags of books for book clubs to check out.

This was our September book, Where'd You Go, Bernadette?
So good!  I definitely recommend it.

Bernadette is an architect and builder who has won awards for her work, but things happen (no spoilers here!) and she stops creating.  One of the best quotes in the book will resonate with many of you!  After explaining to him why she stopped working, Bernadette's former partner tells her, "If you don't create, Bernadette, you will become a menace to society!"

There is a movie based on the book, and Mike and I watched it last night.  It is also very good!  Of course, parts of the story were changed up a bit, as they always do, but it stayed pretty true to the book.

And one more thing to share this week.  I love this sweet card I got from Michele, our friend at 3P&N and also Pennsylvania Piecemaker.

Inside was a gift card that I won for participating in Pennsylvania Piecemaker's Suffrage Centennial quilt festival.  Thank you, Michele!   I *might have* spent some of it already on some very important quilting supplies, lol!  😁

Have a great day, friends!

I love sculptures scattered throughout a town it can add so much to the city streets. When Mike and I travel we find such delightful towns to wander through and wonder why we never see this in areas close by but almost always scattered throughout the western states.

Thanks for sharing your pretty area, That sculpture has a familiar look, I think it may be the same artist we have in one of our parks. I’m going to go look to find out the sculptor’s name.
I’m seeing lots of praise for Where’d You Go,Bernadette? I read it several years ago and did not like it! Must have been my own attitude at the time! Maybe I should watch the movie! I’m open to changing my mind!
Happy Thursday!

I read a sample of that book on Amazon and thought I might like to read it. Thanks for reminding me. That little card is cute. Obviously you took the right path and found the library after enjoying that pretty little walk.

What a beautiful downtown area! I can picture myself checking out a book and reading by the fountain!

Our library is not open (COVID, ya know). I know there is the internet library system, but it sure isn't the same as the atmosphere and smell of the library! :)

Hi,
Love the sculpture of the kids in the wagon. I've put Where'd You Go Bernadette? on my TBR list...sounds like good book. Have a great day!

I love public art sculptures like that! I think the one you show is just begging for a photo shoot with a quilt on it.

Well, shucks, I was in a fabric store this week and forgot to use my gift card! Thanks for any and all book referrals. I am joining my first book club in January and have to recommend some titles.

Lovely likes, Diann. Especially nice to see those statues and the lagoon. Now would that have been man made? Sounds like a movie we would like so going to note it. Congrats on your win and I'm sure you had/will have fun using it!

That's a lovely park by the library. A nice place to sit and reflect. Haven't read that book. Our library has been open for a few weeks and we can now place system-wide holds so I can finally get some of the titles my home library doesn't have. I'm reading the new Louise Penny, Inspector Gamache mystery right at the moment.

You live in a beautiful area. I love that sculpture too. I miss going to the library. We tend to buy Kindle app books because (easier to see and read), but I miss the smell of books and environment of the library.
Congratulations on the participation gift! Have a great weekend Diann.

I bet my bindi that if I stopped creating I'd be a menace :-D And that is no laughing matter, although I enjoyed the takedown of the snooty and pretentious neighbor. Yes, coincidentally, we watched this movie last weekend. You and me are completely in tune Diann :-) Have an awesome weekend.

Love the children sculpture. We have similar ones at the Glendale library but I haven’t been there. I miss all those books and peaceful feeling. I need to check out that book of yours and the movie. Thanks.
