I started making these way back in September of 2017 as a way to use up the smallest scrap pieces of fabric that wouldn't fit anywhere else. Each 10.5 inch block is made of twenty-five 2.5 inch squares created with a 1.5 x 2.5 print fabric and the same size low volume background piece. After making 25 of these blocks in light, medium, and dark shades of all the rainbow colors, I decided that was enough!
This week I sewed them together! They went together quickly, using the Speed Quilt Assembly method I learned from Carole at From My Carolina Home.
I think this is the same as "webbing" a quilt, but I had never taken the time to learn exactly what that meant!
All the blue blocks webbed together - medium and light blue blocks above, and dark blue block in lower left corner.
And the quilt flimsy finished -
It measures 50.5 x 50.5.
Other light blue blocks completed in April:
It's almost time for a new color, and I'm ready! How about you?

Awesome finish!!
ReplyDeleteI love the way those blocks look together, and what a great size they made! I guess I use a form of "webbing", but after watching a YouTube video, I see some parts I left out and will give it a try on my next assembly. Yes I am ready for a new color! Having teal and then blues is making me long for something bright.
ReplyDeleteDiann your Tiny Rails quilt is wonderful. What a great way to use up such small pieces. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteit turned out wonderful I really like the color arrangement you did
ReplyDeleteI love this!💗
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what can be made from tiny little scraps.
Oh so pretty. Great finishes. Thanks for the morning eye candy!
ReplyDeleteI think your tiny rails are amazing, I am glad you stuck with it:)
ReplyDeleteWow! I love how it turned out. Lots of little bits saved by this quilt. Awesome! I don't assemble my quilts with the webbing method. I do for a 9-patch block or something like that but not a quilt. I am not a fan of having to drag the entire quilt to the sewing machine to add another column. Whenever possible I prefer to sew quadrants together and only have a few long seams to do at the end. But if it works for you, that's wonderful. Enjoy! ;^)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great and I imagine it took a while with so many little pieces. I am also ready for a new color.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! The Split Rails is spectacular!!!! AND I really like that sweet 4-patch finish. Good month for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting your Tiny Rails quilt top assembled, Diann!! SEW much more Light/Bright piecing, too. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteYour flimsy is amazing. I love it!

It's a colorful place over in your corner of the world - I think I'd enjoy hanging out in your quilt room with all those bright, happy quilts and blocks! What fun!
ReplyDeleteI just love your rail fence quilt! From the photos, it looks like Carol's method is the same as mine, though I sew in columns, making 'books', which get sewn to the 'book' below...I call it 'Book it!' method. I learned it many years ago when doing colour wash quilts where it is imperative to keep every 2" square in place. Lots of fun blue blocks too!
ReplyDeleteSO colorful and fun. Lots of fabrics to see, controlled pattern and color! Great work here Diann!
ReplyDeleteJust love how the little logs turned out! Great collection of light blues this month. I too can't wait for a new color in May.... hopefully completely different from blues!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI put my quilts together like that too except I usually sew blocks together randomly so I don't even have to go back and forth between sewing machine and design wall. A lot of times I have several quilts webbed together ready to have rows sewn together. I make a pile of blocks basically the same way.
Wow love your rail fence blocks they are awesome. Great blocks for the month, and a finish too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a beautiful and colorful flimsy. You've made really good use of your pre-spring stitching time. We didn't get the snow last week, but it was certainly cold. Hopefully spring is here to stay for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteLove your little rail blocks. 1.5" is one of my favorite sizes to work with. Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI love your rainbow rail fence quilt top, what a great project and lovely way to use up the smallest of scraps.
