I Like Thursday #51 - Fall!

Welcome to Fall in Colorado, where one day it can look like this -

And a few days later, there's this!

I really can't complain because I like all the seasons and because today, a few more days later, we are back in the upper 60s with sun and blue skies.  Unfortunately, though, these early snowstorms can result in this -a large limb broken off of one of our trees.

This fall we have also had a huge migration of Painted Lady butterflies coming through, and they liked my marigold garden.

It's been to see bunches of them flitting around everywhere we go.  There was even this funny report about them in the news!

The gist of it is that they saw this on the weather radar and thought it was a flock of birds, but it was actually the Painted Lady butterflies!

The butterflies also brought back some good memories of my teaching career!  I loved teaching Science, and in the last year of my teaching, we had a new unit that involved (among many other things!) observing some Painted Lady caterpillars make their chrysallis and hatch into butterflies.  Here's a peek into my classroom from the Fall of 2014.

Can you see the caterpillars attaching themselves to the top of the cage?

Happy Thursday!  I hope you're having a lovely week!  I'm joining in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for our weekly party to celebrate being positive!

I am not ready to think about snow. Our leaves are just turning too. The colors are beautiful!

I love fall in Colorado and do miss it - due to one thing or another it has been at least two years since we have spent time in the mountains we need to get back to it next year

I wondered if you might have gotten a little snow. Our leaves are not turning much and I am worried we might not get our color show this year. It seems late for it.

We have not had snow yet but it flirted with a frosty temperature overnight, down to 1 C. But going up to 11 today with sun so a nice autumn day.
I love anything to do with butterflies and like the kids, am fascinated by metamorphosis. What a great project for them. I'm working my way along my Painted Lady project but haven't reached her yet...still on the flowers.

Butterflies on the radar. That is so awesome! Pretty leaves. We're starting to turn here, but I hope the snow is still far off!

Good Morning!
The trees are gorgeous, and that snow can just wait a bit. I'm glad the tree branch didn't land on your house! I did not know that butterflies like marigolds. I will be sure to plant some next year - they give me a happy memory of my grandmother - I try to have butterfly-friendly plants. ~smile~ Roseanne

My Guy was talking about snow in Colorado. It's been cool enough here to drag out some of the heavier jackets, but just in the mornings.

Fun likes! Love that photo of the butterfly on the marigold! We haven't had snow yet (thankfully) and you made me grateful for the lengthy autumns we have in Pennsylvania. Have a wonderful week! Hugs!
