I Like Thursday #28 - Odds and Ends

Welcome to another I like Thursday - I'm joining in with LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color and her brigade of "I like Thursday"-ers, and sharing some things I've come across this week that caught my attention and made me smile.

Like the Colorado weather -

This was the scene outside our house one day last week - it was the funniest day!  We woke to fog, then bright blue sky and sunshine showed up about 11:00, right after lunch it started to rain, and by evening it was snowing!

I liked seeing this little house finch who took shelter on our bird feeder.  He wasn't even eating, just taking cover out of the snow.

I like basting quilts... well, to be honest, not really.  What I do like about that stage of a quilt is that I'm almost there - ready to do the quilting, and the binding (that really is my favorite part!) - close to a finished quilt that I can really enjoy.

I like a brand new pile of fabric.  I want to try to make that sunflower painting I showed a few weeks ago into a quilted wall-hanging.  Here is my first attempt at the fabric for it - some Kona cottons and some Grunge.  The darkest yellow is even called Sunflower, so I decided it was meant to be!

I like this pretty yellow snapdragon and its colorful container.  It was a thank you gift from the people who run the after school homework help program where I volunteer during the school year.  They were so sweet to make these for all of their volunteers!

I like the way the new Kleenex tissue boxes are decorated!  (Isn't that silly, but this one does make me smile!)  All those leaf or "orange peel" shapes appeal to my quilter's heart.

And I like a guilty pleasure now and then!  A treat at Starbucks - yummy chocolate loaf cake and an iced latte, plus my book to read.  Ahhh...

Happy Thursday!  Hope you are enjoying a great week!

You had some great *I likes* today! I too love the decorative kleenex/puff boxes-My DH thought he was helping me one day as he took the empty box apart-no no no I said I just keep replenishing it as I like that box, it went with our decor!!

I do love a Starbucks treat very occasionally-the choc loaf looks great. It's so funny how I also see "patterns" in everyday life! Never noticed them before. I'm looking forward to your quilt. Love me some grunge. I was shocked at your like of basting till I read the rest. LOL. It's my dreaded part of quilting cause it's tedious, I guess. Have a great day. mary in Az

Yum on the Starbucks, and I carefully peruse and choose my Kleenex boxes at the store! I used to think our weather in OK was crazy, but your weather is really all over the place! ;)

oh my gosh yes. Good drink snack and time to read. Heavenly. And I've been known to refill a pretty kleenex box to keep that design! It's the little beauties in life.

Mmmmm. Chocolate. The sunflower quilt will be pretty, I'm sure! I like the colors of fabric. We have house finches that hang out on sheltered feeders, too! Smart little birds!

Wow - I thought New England weather changed on a dime! That's crazy.

We've had a few days recently that went from 80° to 50° in 24 hours. Right now it's raining again and we don't need it at all.
I love your sunflower colors.

Quilted sunflower painting....? I will have to back track and read that post as I missed it. Great list of likes and I share many except for quilt basting.

I agree, last weekend was crazy when it came to the weather. Love your fabric pulls for your sunflower, it's going to be very bright and fun.

I adored your pincushion in the last post and like your quilt you are basting above, your work is so perfect, something that inspires me to be neater. I have problems with that stage...the squaring up because I haven't been as exact all the way along. Eeek.
I too looked back to see the Sunflower. Your colours look awesome and you are right, new fabrics like a new box of crayons when I was a kid...gives me the same wonderful feeling.
Actually the tissue boxes are quite artsy these days, arent' they? I often admire them too.
Thanks for writing such a lovely post, Diann.
