Everything Plus the Kitchen Sink

This week I've been working on some Double 4 patch blocks in our September colors of Red and Gold/Yellow for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

Here's my favorite - so happy!

These blocks are made out of 2 1/2 inch and 4 1/2 inch squares.  Along the way I've added a few 4 patches made out of the 4 1/2 inch squares, and a few 8 1/2 inch squares as well.  At this point, here is my layout -

This might be a quilt that only its mother can love!  ;)  There isn't much organization to it, except for the diagonal pattern you can see here and there running from left to right.  I did try to organize the colors so that they grouped together going from the center brown blocks and moving outward with blues on either side, then the rest - red, yellow, green, purple, turquoise, and orange.

This definitely has all the colors of the rainbow, although nothing like one you'd see after a storm.   Call it busy, disorganized or just plain crazy, it sure did use up some scraps!

Hopefully, once you have all the blocks done, they will start to come together. Some of my favorite quilts went through phases like that.

It is a beautiful scrappy quilt. Remember what happened to the ugly duckling? More than just the mother can love this quilt too. ;^)

Great blocks! The quilt top will come together, don't worry. It looks pretty good as-is, so the last few colors will only make it better!

I made something like this pattern, from Mary Ellen Hopkins. Long ago. I used pink and cream flannels, and it looks superb! Still a favorite. More is better with that pattern so keep at it, and the right setting will emerge at the end.

I really like the brighter red blocks and your favourite is beautiful. As you create more of these blocks the right setting will just jump out at you but it is fun playing.

I agree that more will be better...but already I can see that your good use of value..very dark and very light... will save the day.

Your blocks this month are super - you really explored the color combo with great results!! Your quilt will be fun and happy, and everyone (not just “mama”) loves that!!

Your reds and golds are great and the flowers are my favorite also. Your use of different size blocks makes it lively and I know that you will end up with the answer to the puzzle when the last piece is put in.

Are you kidding?! A quilt that only its maker can love? I didn't make it, but I certainly do LOVE it!!!

Lovely blocks. It is going to be a very pretty quilt. Best of all you used your scraps to make it.

I love your blocks. My plans are to make this block pattern during next year's RSC. This is going to be a color, fun, beautiful RSC quilt one day.
